"talk about its"

this man is my dear ole' grandpa.

he's in his 80s. he had a stroke about 10 years ago and lost my grandma 3 years ago. but he's still such a fire cracker. he works outside everyday doing anything he can find.

i've had the privilege of living a block away from my grandparents all my 18 years and they have been a huge part of my life. often as a child at my grandparents's house my grandpa and i would have what we called "talk about its". a "talk about it" consisted on eating pu pu platters (turkey, cheese, and saltines) that my grandma would make us, drinking 7-up, and talking about everything that went through my child brain. this was before his stroke. since the stroke took away some of his words, we stopped having "talk about its".

today i went over to my grandpa's and we had a "talk about it" like old times! afterwards i pulled up my notepad on my phone and jotted down our conversation:

g: "you like your boy? you still love him?"
k: "Lane? yes, we've been together almost 4 years!"
g: "my gosh that's a long time!"
"4 years and you get married"
k: "yes, after school."
g: "yes. you gotta get smart."

g: "he's dead and he's dead"
[talking about his neighbor in front and behind him]
k: "you're the last one!"
g: "yeah."
k: "you're going to live until you're 100"
g: "yeah! that's a good idea."
