Uncovered Great Depression Photos

Yale University just posted newly uncovered photos from the Great Depression. They have uploaded them to a website that allows you to look at photos on an interactive map. Of course went to San Diego first! It's crazy to see photos of my hometown during such a different time than today.  I can relate to these photos more than any other Depression photos I've seen because their so close to home. The Mission Valley photos are only 2 miles from my house!!

There are SO many amazing photos that tell stories from during the depression. I encourage you to look at the website. Look at the photos from your hometown and I bet they'll change the way you look at the Depression.

Here are a few of my favorites from the website...

summary of my week: "Adventurous Summer Adventures"

I found this gem photo in while helping my mom clean out her closet. We are doing intense organizing/getting rid of stuff at my mom's house in hopes of her getting rid of her storage unit and possibly moving. This picture is of my cousin Bradley and I. We are both only children, so we spent most of our young lives together.

The last 4 weeks have consisted mostly of teaching swim lessons and then coming home to do homework! This week was no different, although I was able to squeeze in a dinner/dessert date with Kendal and Mama K. They took me to Rita's for the first time. Let me telllllll that stuff is yummy!

This past week of work went by soon fast [Thank you Lord], before I knew it the weekend was here. I wrapped up second session of swim lessons which means I only have one session to go! This weekend I procrastinated on homework in order to have a little fun.

Friday night Lane and I drove to Julian with our favorite couple friends, Nic and Kaelah. We didn't get up there until 8:15ish and so we only had one dinner place to chose from. It was a little Italian place that was so yummy. Lane treated us all to dinner, which was a huge blessing and made me so proud of him. He's such a big boy, now! LOL. After dinner the boys remembered they had skateboards in the trunk so they skated for a while at a dead end and on the main street of Julian.

Weekend bliss

This weekend was the best and I don't think I'm ready to say goodbye to it. The weekend started off with free slurpee day at 7-Eleven. Plus they have watermelon sour patch slurpees, so that was a score!

Saturday night was one of my top ten best nights ever. Unfortunately it was so fun I forgot to take pictures of it. Heather, Ava, Ava's cousin Ariel, and I went on a little adventure. We borrowed kayaks from Ava's store packed them into the van, got sandwiches at Con Pane, then kayaked from Shelter Island to Humphrey's by the bay to watch a concert. Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors and Colony House opened for NEEDTOBREATHE. Ahhhh the music was amazing, the company was amazing, and what I loved most was that NEEDTOBREATHE is a Christian band so I felt like I was worshipping Jesus the whole time! After the concert we kayaked back a bit slower, shared sweet conversation, and soaked in the beautiful night time bay.

SO thankful for this night. It fed my adventurous side and reminded me how blessed I am to have
friends that love Jesus.

THEN Sunday after church I got to see this beautiful face after almost 4 months of her being away at school then a missions trip in Cambodia!!!!!!! Sadly, she her family moved to LA but can't stop us! Luckily her sister had a beach volley beach tournament in Coronado, so I jumped on the offer and soaked up as much time as I could with her. It was so nice to catch up with her, hear about her boyfriend, and listen to what the Lord did in Cambodia. After hanging out in Coronado for a couple hours she walked me to my car and we got lost, BUT we found this beautiful light blue VW bus. Of course we stopped for a mini photoshoot and prayed the owner wasn't inside the house watching us stalk his van.

Anyways, Syd, I know you're reading this and I'm happy you are. Thank you for today. You're rad, inspiring, and beautiful. I'm so glad you blessed those children in Cambodia and i'm so glad we are friends. xoxoxo.

Hello Again

I got caught up doing life and forgot I have this beautiful thing called a blog. I'm back and here's a few highlights of these last two months:

January

I WENT TO HAWAII. Oahu to be specific. I went with my mom and it was both of our first times! We stayed with my cousin Kara and her little family (Tom, Kaylee, and baby Charlotte). It was the most incredible time, ever!!

I celebrated my 19th birthday! My actual birthday was not the greatest because I had school from 8-4 and had a super bad cold. Although, Lane bought me red roses with my favorite purple flowers, I treated myself to a chocolate glazed donut before school, it rained alllllll day, and we went to Red Robin for dinner.

February

Lane and I went to Supercross in Anaheim then in the same weekend went to Disneyland together for the first time. It was a blissful weekend!

Harper got spayed. No one could have prepared me for that morning when I had to drop her off at the pet hospital knowing what was going to happen to her and that I wouldn't be with her. But she did it, WE did it, and know she's done!!

The weather in San Diego has been warming up! Soooooooo that means that I have been spending a lot more time at the beach. And finding seaglass!

This boy of mine can't ever smile normally in a photo. And I'm okay with that.

I watched this boy pitch in a COLLEGE BASEBALL GAME. Hallelujah.

March (so far)

Spent the day with Harper and Maric at "No Surf". Harper did a great job for her first time, other than the few times she trampled people who were sunbathing on their towels leaving a mountain of sand.

Helped Alissa celebrate his 25th birthday! These girls right here have been such a blessing to me. It's so amazing to have friends who love Jesus as much as you do and inspire you in your walk.

Yesterday I spent the day with my friendliest friend, Kendal. She's been away at college for 2 months and is home for spring break. It was so nice to be able to catch up with her and lay in bed until 2am talking about our future (children, proposal, wedding, bridesmaids...). This girl will always have a special place in my heart and I can't wait to see her in May!
